The Forum has been active since 1998. Examples of achievements have been:

  • development and review of "Giving Bad News" guidelines
  • providing patient input to print publications
  • members serve as patient representatives on the local  Cancer Network site specific groups
  • members consult over hospital development
  • members represent patient interests at regional and national events
  • assisting Trust's with formulation of questionnaires
  • raising awareness of the need for support for cancer patients with young families or dependants
  • providing comments and responses to information, documents and leaflets about cancer services
  • members involvement in hospital development e.g. improvement to Radiotherapy Department
  • reviewing videotape materials

The Shropshire & Mid-Wales Cancer Forum has been recognised as a 'partnership' group under the Macmillan/Cancer Voices initiative to develop similar groups around the UK. Members attend regional and national Cancer Voices events.
